Meet Sabra
Officiating ceremonies isn’t just my job, it’s what I was meant to do.
For years, I dreamed about what kind of work would bring me joy, something positive, meaningful, and fun that I could do forever. I never imagined that officiating weddings and life ceremonies would be the answer.
Then, in 2017, two of my closest friends decided to get married and asked me to officiate. I took the leap, became an Ordained Minister through the Universal Life Church, and helped them pull off an unforgettable surprise backyard wedding. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that moment changed my life. I was hooked, and there was no turning back.
By 2019, I left my day job as a Chiropractic Assistant, and became a full-time Michigan wedding officiant, ready to create personalized ceremonies for couples across the state.
The Journey to Becoming a Family Celebrant
For the next few years I officiated weddings, and I loved officiating weddings, but I wanted to do more, to tell each couple’s love story in a way that was engaging, fun, and personal rather than relying on generic words that didn’t feel like them.
That’s when I trained with Mark Allan Groleau, the Unboring Officiant, and learned how to craft ceremonies that truly reflect the people at the heart of them.
Then, I attended a funeral that changed everything.
As I listened, I kept thinking, “I could do better than this. I could tell this man’s story in a way that truly honored who he was”. That realization led me to expand my work beyond weddings, helping people celebrate life’s biggest milestones—not just weddings, but baby welcoming’s, transgender naming ceremonies, house blessings, funerals, and end-of-life services. I wanted to be a Family Celebrant, someone who walks with people through all of life’s meaningful transitions.
To bring this vision to life, I trained with the Celebrant Academy, an officiant training program with a humanist twist designed for contemporary, secular celebrants.
While I am not a humanist celebrant, my training focused on writing, storytelling, rituals, and crafting meaningful secular ceremonies that truly honor the people they’re written for.
I also pursued additional training in End-of-Life ceremonies with Beth Stokes, Life Transitions with Kristabeth Atwood, and later became an InSight Certified Celebrant, refining my ability to create personalized and heartfelt funeral and memorial services.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
I love working with all couples, interfaith, multicultural, traditional, and non-traditional. My goal is simple: to create a ceremony that brings you joy.
Whether it’s a wedding, a funeral, or another important milestone, I want it to feel authentic, meaningful, and deeply personal to you.
My clients describe me as attentive, joyful, and fun, the perfect fit for their ceremony. I take pride in crafting unique, and heartfelt experiences that truly reflect your values, beliefs, and personalities.
As an equality enthusiast, I proudly officiate for LGBTQIA+ couples and anyone looking for a celebrant who will honor and celebrate their story with warmth, inclusivity, and respect.
I’m based in Southeast Michigan, but I travel wherever love and life’s milestones take me, across the state and beyond.
Whether your ceremony is in Mackinaw, Detroit, Port Huron, or Grand Rapids, or anywhere across the country (or world!), I’m there. My passport is always current, so if your dream wedding or celebration takes you outside of Michigan, I’d love to be part of it!
