Funeral Celebrant

Personalized, Heartfelt Funeral and Celebration of Life Services

Every Goodbye Deserves to Be Personal
Saying goodbye to someone you love is one of the hardest things we face in life. It’s a moment filled with emotions, memories, and the need to honor their story in a way that feels true to who they were. That’s where I come in, not just as a guide, but as someone who listens, understands, and helps you create a farewell that feels meaningful and authentic.

As a Michigan based Funeral Celebrant, my goal is simple: to craft a ceremony that reflects the life, values, and unique essence of your loved one. Whether it’s a traditional service in a funeral home, a graveside farewell, Military Service at Great Lakes National Cemetery, or a celebration of life in a special location, I’ll work with you every step of the way to make it personal, heartfelt, and just right for your family.

Listening to Their Story, Together
Every life is a collection of stories, big and small, joyful and bittersweet. When we meet, I’ll take the time to hear about your loved one’s passions, personality, and the moments that made them unforgettable. Together, we’ll create a ceremony filled with those stories, along with music, readings, or rituals that truly honor their memory.

You don’t have to do this alone. I’m here to make the process as smooth and supportive as possible. I want to help create a space where family and friends can grieve, remember, and celebrate a life well-lived.

How We’ll Work Together

  • Listening to Your Story: I’ll meet with you and your family, either in person, via Zoom, or over the phone, to learn about your loved one. Together, we’ll gather memories, stories, and moments that reflect who they really were.

  • Creating the Ceremony: I’ll write a ceremony that incorporates any readings, songs, or rituals you choose. If you’re unsure where to start, I’m happy to suggest options that may feel right for your family. Before the service, you’ll receive the ceremony draft to ensure it reflects your wishes and feels just right.

  • Collaboration with Funeral Directors: I coordinate directly with your funeral director to ensure a smooth, respectful, seamless service. You can focus on your family while I handle the ceremony details with care.

This is a time to gather in shared grief, celebrate a life well-lived, and offer one another connection and support.

Short Graveside Goodbye
For families seeking a simple yet meaningful way to say their farewell, this intimate graveside service includes thoughtfully chosen words and personal reflections on your loved one’s life. It offers the same heartfelt care as a full ceremony, but in a shorter format. This is still a personalized funeral that allows the family to be surrounded by community, to share in their grief, and to remember their loved one.

This time at their final resting place allows for connection, remembrance, and the comfort of saying goodbye.

This is for a 10 to 15 minute service at cemeteries within 20 miles of zip code 48462. Travel beyond that distance may require an additional fee. Music is not included.

Great Lakes National Cemetery Service
For families honoring a veteran or a devoted spouse of a veteran, I offer personalized ceremonies at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. These services are short by design, typically 7–9 minutes when military honors are included, and about 15 minutes without honors, yet deeply meaningful. Each ceremony reflects your loved one’s life, their service or connection to service, and the pride your family carries forward.

Beyond Tradition

Not every family wants a traditional or religious funeral. Many seek something more personal — a ceremony rooted in story, meaning, and authenticity. Whether secular, spiritual, interfaith, or nontraditional, we can create a ceremony that feels right for your family’s beliefs and values.

My focus is always on honoring individuality, creating comfort, and holding space for grief, connection, and healing.

Why Choose a Celebrant-Led Funeral?

A celebrant-led ceremony is centered on the person being honored. Unlike traditional clergy services, a funeral celebrant designs the ceremony from the ground up, ensuring that it reflects the life, humor, beliefs, relationships, and identity of your loved one. There is no template, just a thoughtful, personalized tribute shaped around their story.

Families often choose a celebrant when they want:
• A non-religious or secular funeral
• A storytelling-focused celebration of life
• A more flexible, inclusive approach
• A ceremony that honors LGBTQIA+ identities, blended families, unique backgrounds, and modern belief systems
• A compassionate guide who listens and collaborates

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a funeral celebrant?
A funeral celebrant is a trained professional who creates and leads personalized funeral or celebration of life ceremonies focused on storytelling, meaning, and honoring the individual.

Do you officiate secular or non-religious services?
Yes. Many families choose me for secular ceremonies, but I’m also comfortable weaving in spiritual or lightly religious elements if they feel right.

Can you include prayers, scripture, or cultural traditions?
Absolutely, if your family wishes. Your ceremony can be religious, spiritual, secular, or a blend. You are also welcome to invite a guest up to share a reading or prayer.

Do we get to review the ceremony before the service?
Yes. You’ll receive a full draft ahead of time for accuracy and comfort. I want you to know exactly what I’ll be saying so you can be fully present, able to grieve, feel, and remember, without worrying about any of the words. Let me hold that space for you.

How far do you travel?
Most services take place within 30 miles of 48462, but I can travel farther with an additional fee.

Can you help us choose readings or music?
Of course. I have a library of beautiful readings and a Spotify playlist filled with meaningful songs that previous families have chosen. I’m happy to make suggestions, and you’re welcome to choose anything that feels right for your loved one. Most families find that two readings and two songs create a lovely balance.

Do you work with all funeral homes?
Yes. I collaborate with funeral homes of all sizes to help the ceremony flow smoothly. I reach out to the funeral director ahead of time to introduce myself, explain how a celebrant-led service differs from traditional clergy, and share an outline of the ceremony, including songs, cues, and timing so everyone knows what to expect.

“I have to tell you the service was the most beautiful and heartfelt I have ever heard at any funeral (and I’m a funeral goer). You are absolutely amazing and I cannot express how grateful I am for your attention to detail and delivery. We received so much positive feedback from family and friends and I wanted you to know that. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Mom has already said she wants you to speak at hers which is sad in one breath but says how much she appreciated you. Thank you so very very much.” - Sue
