Andrea and John’s intimate Sage Green Flowers & Events Wedding in Keego Harbor
I first met John and Andrea at their friend Matt’s wedding in February. John was one of Matt’s groomsmen, so he was up close and personal with my officiating style.
The day after Matt’s wedding, Andrea reached out asking if I was available for her date in March at in Keego Harbor. A small 30-person wedding, just a quick ceremony with dinner to follow.
When we had the chance to Zoom, I found out that John and Andrea had been best friends since High School, and 19 years later, they became a couple.
They wanted a ceremony that included God, but not a sermon, so they chose their opening prayer and secular reading from a list I emailed over to them.
Then they chose their vows…. and once they’d finished that task, it was up to me to craft their ceremony. Something meaningful, yet short and sweet.
I arrived at Sage Green Floral and Events earlier than expected, the wind and snow swirling around outside, and opened the door on the left.
The event room had been transformed. Chairs were arranged so that the fireplace was the focal point of the ceremony. Birch branches filled the opening, a mirror and lit candles on the mantle, and daffodil arrangements beautifully arranged on the sides to welcome spring.
Frankie the photographer was busy snapping family pictures while the other guests mingled, and Amanda came over with a warm welcome as soon as she spotted me entering the space.
The venue was so cool, I had the time, so I wandered about. Ella was answering a phone call at the desk while I poked around the half of the venue that is a gift and flower shop. It was there that I met the staff from Kristina’s Catering, and Erin, the venue owner. We all exchanged pleasantries, excited for a mid March wedding, and then I went back to the wedding space so as not to take up too much of their time.
Finally it was time to start the ceremony! Amanda and John’s nieces and nephews were their attendants. There was laughter, and vows, they both exchanged rings then I stepped out of the way for the presentation and the kiss.
My favorite part of the ceremony? When John stomped on the bag, breaking the glass, and we all shouted Mazel Tov!
If you are looking for a great spot for a small wedding and reception with a boho vibe, you should stop in and talk to the staff at Sage Green in Keego Harbor. It was a really cool space, and I hope someone else decides to book a wedding with them, and that I’ll get to go back someday!
Kristina’s Catering was picked by John and Andrea because they do full service catering – think staff wandering around with appetizers, plates and napkins, drinks…very elegant.
And Frankie Krusen of Frankie Photography has a vintage boho vibe that totally meshes with the esthetic of the venue. So it’s pretty obvious why Andrea and John chose her to photograph their special day.
